MTM was founded in 1996 by Jim Treadway, and two other Seattle entrepreneurs. When Jim left Westin in 1995, the owner of the Sorrento Hotel asked him to consult and help recruit a capable hotel operator. After only a month as the interim general manager, Jim fell in love with the Sorrento and set about re-energizing the historic hotel. Stirred by this new project, Jim successfully developed a company to support other independent hotels in need of professional management.
In March 1996, Jim attracted the Woodmark Hotel on Lake Washington, WA making MTM a two-property group. In 1998, MTM assumed operation of the Freestone Inn in the Methow Valley and a year later in 1999 added Resort Semiahmoo. That same year MTM became involved with the development of Willows Lodge in Woodinville, WA which opened in 2000.

Jim Treadway and James Simkins began successful careers together in Johannesburg. The two were reunited after successful stints with Westin in 2000 when James was brought on to manage Willows Lodge and take on multi-property responsibilities. In 2001, Simkins was instrumental in adding Alderbrook Resort on the Hood Canal in Union, WA to MTM’s growing family of managed properties.
In 2002, MTM entered the first of many asset management relationships with The Madison Hotel in Washington, D.C., which included over-sight of a $30 million renovation, and re-opened the summer of 2003.
By 2005 MTM added the breathtaking Cave B Inn at SageCliffe in Quincy, WA and had grown to include signed development and management agreements for Hotel 1000, Seattle, WA-opened June 2006; Ivy Hotel, San Diego, CA-opened May 2007; The Liberty Hotel, Boston, MA-opened August 2007 and opening in the summer of 2008- the Bardessono Resort & Spa, Napa Valley, CA.

With the guestroom count scheduled to double in 2007, Jim and James quickly identified the need to add resources to support the company’s rapid growth. Recruiting for brains, personality and accomplishment, MTM found all three with Rob Fix and Marc Pujalet.
With an impressive track record as Chief Financial Officer of Trillium Corporation, Rob joined MTM as CFO and partner, responsible for the finance and accounting functions of MTM, its hotels and oversight of the emerging asset management portfolio.
Enrolled as a partner, Marc Pujalet brought sales & marketing strength from a successful career in global branding for Westin, the Seattle Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and Noble House Hotels & Resorts.

Most recently, the addition of Diana Delgado as Director of Marketing and Mindy Cushing as Revenue and Central Reservations Manager brought exceptional revenue management and distribution marketing skills to the MTM collection. Since their arrival MTM hotels have experienced accelerated and compelling revenue growth. This team has driven significant gains in Central Reservations voice and Internet revenue delivery with almost 300% combined growth over previous year.

This dynamic period was highlighted by the successful openings of the high profile Ivy Hotel in San Diego (May 2007) and The Liberty Hotel in Boston (August 2007). These hotels were among the most significant properties opened in the USA during these years. Additionally the Sorrento Hotel rejoined the MTM Collection after a few years as an unaffiliated hotel.
Internally, MTM completed a significant physical plant and service upgrade of its Central Reservations Office. Since this upgrade, with the impetus of new strategic marketing initiatives, business delivery to the hotels has nearly doubled from prior years.
MTM’s Washington State hotels continued their successful run as market leaders as all hotels maintained a significant RevShare premium over their competitive set. Hotel 1000 is a particular success becoming Seattle’s leading hotel a scant 18 months after opening-a position maintained to date.
To support new properties and anticipated future additions to MTM we added substantially to our leadership team. Brian Flaherty joined MTM headquarters as VP, Operations, Dave Ruehlmann as VP, Asset Management, Quentin Incao as Director of Operations and Jodi Forslund as Regional Director of Sales and Marketing, Northwest Hotels. Diana Delgado was promoted to VP, Marketing and Revenue Management. Jim Treadway was named Chairman; James Simkins was promoted to CEO and Marc Pujalet assumed responsibilities as MTM’s President.
Much of 2008 was invested in the stabilization of our new hotels and dealing with the onset of the industry downturn at the end of 2008. MTM was aggressive in developing new sales/marketing initiatives to protect market share in response to heightened competition as well as managing operational expense to maintain acceptable profit levels and desired service levels.
In the wake of economic challenges MTM’s commitment to the guest experience remained steadfast and resulted in the following notable recognition. Go to Awards & Accolades for a complete list.

This year has been a challenge for our industry. With careful planning MTM hotels have maintained a market share premium, thoughtfully managed expenses and increased customer satisfaction scores as measured by Market Metrix.
In February we opened the spectacular Bardessono Hotel, Spa and Restaurant in Yountville, California. This 62-room (soon to be LEED Platinum certified) hotel is positioned at the very top of the Napa Valley market. In spite of the national and state economic maelstrom Bardessono is steadily building business to desired levels. Check out this industry redefining hotel in the “Hotels” section of this site.
Additionally, MTM announced the addition of the 100-room Bellevue Park Hotel (opening in 2012) as well as the addition of 2 major restaurant facilities to the Woodmark Hotel, Yacht Club and Spa in June.
